'Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists. It is real. It is possible. It is yours.'
Don't we all wish we could go back in time and fix something or change what we have?
Maybe we'd go back in time and invest our life savings in google. Maybe we'd go back in time and tolerate just a little more time and energy in that one relationship you wish you never ended. Maybe we'd go back in time just to experience our youth one more time.
Fact: Time machines don't exist. They never did, and hopefully never will (although, you never know about such things anymore).
The irony is that we've lived on this planet all of our lives, each and every single breathing moment, yet not one of us has gotten any closer to knowing what life is about. We've never crossed galaxies, planet surfed, or even flown above 10,000 feet in the air. But besides extraterrestrial pipe dreams, we experience life in a first person perspective. We don't have the luxury of being right or wrong, it ultimately doesn't matter. The only absolute thing on this planet are numbers. Everything else can be elastic and interchanging. Flipping a coin never comes out to be a precise 50/50 chance. There's never a 100% chance that you're going to make it alive coming out of each day. Cliche or not, we must live each day to its fullest; take every single opportunity and smile because you can.
So, if we really have lived our lives on our own accord, then tell me, why has every single person on this planet wished they could have gone back in time maybe once, if not a thousand times? Life isn't perfect, and that's ultimate perfection. We dream when we're asleep and when we are awake, we must attain those dreams. Each mistake and each fault is to our own favor. The reason we can't go back in time to fix the things we wish we could is simply because those defining moments decide how we treat our lives after the unthinkable happens. The meaning of life may not ever be discovered, as it may just merely be to reproduce. However, as far as I know, life is all about making the decisions no one has to think about; to be the one who can change and adapt to the always changing terrain and face of life. We're living life as it happens, and the past stays the past. Things change.
Maybe we'll always wish to go back in time, but wishing for things never leads you anywhere. They always tell you that after time, things get better... but that's just a load of bullshit. It's what you do with that time that decides if things get better or not. To be honest, I don't ever want to travel back in time because each mistake and fault has made me a better person... and made me more understanding, patient, and wise. Each decision we make is final, there is no going back. There's no undo button, and there's certainly no chance for you to change what has happened.
We can always be scared of the possibilities and the past, but we can't always let that affect our future. Besides, where would you go if you're always running scared? Some things in life are worth staying put for; some things in life are worth standing up for. There will always be a thin line between stupidity and devotion, but as long as know where the line is, somehow we'll be in the clear.
Stay for the things that have made you happy. Stay for the things have make you happy. Stay for the things that will make you happy.
Because as far as I know, there's no going back.

interesting...
The only absolute thing on this planet are numbers.
assuming you're going by the definition of absolute as "expressing finality with no implication of possible change" (google)
what about irrational numbers? not only that, numbers are sequential by nature, be it forwards or backwards, thus implying change. take the number 0 for example, "absolute" zero: "indicating the absence of any or all units under consideration" (also google).
the only way we determine this is by comparison to another unit, 1 or 2 or 3... but fundamentally, what are these units? just a concept serving as the basis of another concept, mathematics, which is broken up into MORE concepts: the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of these so-called absolute units. these "numbers" are used to define, to describe other concepts like money or even something as simple as quantity. am i missing something, or is it all just concepts bouncing off concepts endlessly? nothing is absolute, not even zero, the very numerical expression of nothing.
but let's stop this insanity--for just a moment--and get to the larger subject of your post. from what we determined, think about time. time we record as a quantity of... what exactly? change based on our surroundings? we only perceive these surroundings through our senses, which change over time: rapidly developing then slowly degrading and, upon death, vanishing entirely. these "senses" are only tangible in their own right, and even then, fleetingly and inconsistently. they fool you into thinking you're perceiving these "surroundings," this overall process of time, but it's all a lie! there's no time, never was and never will be!
i'm telling you man, it's all a big nothing. traveling backwards or forwards is impossible; we're stuck. you can fool yourself into thinking that you actually exist, that you can make a difference and be a part of this illusion of change, but you can't really. and by doing so, you're exercising a choice!
you say, "So, if we really have lived our lives on our own accord, then tell me, why has every single person on this planet wished they could have gone back in time maybe once, if not a thousand times?"
correct me if i'm wrong then, you support determinism over free will? again, you're fooling yourself. what's to be determined? the very title of your blog: the thin line between reality and truth suggests that this false reality, the one in which we take it upon ourselves to alter and progress through existence is the opposite of what is true or, back to the start, absolute. if such an existence is real, then we are nothing but slaves to the living genome, the OVERMIND aka allah or jehovah or... you know, that other name. the one that doesn't exist, the universally feared and despised g-word... but fear not! again, it's a lie invented by power-hungry pedophiles, no need to be alarmed, they would have you believe that we are not the masters of our own destiny, but we are, we have to be. this is all just my humble opinion, my own belief (though i believe NOTHING, i know nothing), and honestly: i pulled it out of my ass (no pun intended). there are many superior philosophical dissertations to prove the absolute contrary and based on decades of the highest scholarly research at the worlds most prominent, leading universities (oxford, cambridge and whatnot) and patriarchal merit alone, they could very well be on to something. so, why do i still hold true to my respective viewpoint?
this DUMBASS skanky tool of a skeez-fountain makeup-and-eyeshadow mount right here
i mean, come on. bitch PUH-LEASE.
perhaps we are all gods? i don't believe so, regardless, you are one step ahead of "whatever" in whatever you do: i find your optimism for making the best of this lifetime commendable, almost enviable in a way. live for today, but
it'll be over in the blink of an eye: straight back to nothing where it all began. there's your traveling back in time--it happens instantaneously the moment we die, so i agree, why waste time with regret? why waste time on anything, for that matter? i did so (and let me assure you i spend AGES on this... most if it just shoegazing at the screen) for one reason: to share my viewpoints with a fellow philosopher who's also a homie and will hopefully compare/contrast his own belief system with my own, with particular emphasis on any way in whcih i may contradict/just plain not make sense, so that i can go back and examine, repair, and so on.. get started yo!
